This was our first day in the new house, the home of an artist, which we shared with her. Ezra and Naomi woke up early as always, and took out a chess set that was in the house. I came downstairs to them playing, which was sweet. The house also had a rhubarb garden and the woman let Naomi chop a little rhubarb and taste it 🙂 Naomi’s reaction to the rhubarb wasn’t wonderful, but she did like the jam, haha.
We were planning on seeing four waterfalls, somewhat close to us, in the east of Iceland. Ezra had a major hanger situation in the car and struggled mightily. It took quite a while to help him work out of it. The first hike was up and along a mountain river to two waterfalls. We went to the first of them, a beautiful falls named Litlanesfoss. After a few minutes it was decided that people were not interested in continuing to the second waterfall, Hengifoss. We also crossed one of the other stops off the list and decided to just visit the one more waterfall that was closest to our house. The drive to the next waterfall provided some more beautiful and very green scenery.
This second waterfall was called Fardagafoss which, for whatever reason, I thought was funny to call “fuhget about it foss” (think Sopranos, haha). It was a great decision to come here as it was close to the house, wasn’t huge, and allowed Ezra and Naomi opportunities to scramble on rocks, get right up to the waterfall, and even go into the small cave behind the falls. It provided Ezra with some positive energy on what was otherwise a difficult emotional day, and helped bring him back to life, so to speak.
See you on the next mountain!

As you all think back over your experiences in Iceland, what were your favorites? What surprised you about the country?
Favorite was the Glymer hike and seeing the glacial lagoons. The biggest surprise is how remote much of Iceland is. Everyone you talk to warns you, but parts of it are remote. Like really, really remote.
