Swinging on a Buoy

We decided to take it easy today and explore town. Firstly, Ezra did his soccer training at the fields of the local team. After that we went down to the harbor of Isafjordur (largest town in the Westfjords at just under 3,000 people). We walked all around the town, taking in the harbor, cemetery, “downtown,” and neighborhoods with Westfjords style tin houses. These houses are really interesting and are traditional for the area. Some are a little rusted and looking a bit run down. Many, however, have been restored by their owners and are crisp and brightly colored. They make for a visual that is colorful and fun! We found some public art and the kids also found a buoy swing! You’ve heard of a tire swing? Well, same idea, but with a buoy, haha. (I also liked that the local rainbow street art included a trans pride rainbow too! Nice work, Isafjordur!)

Ezra’s birthday isn’t until tomorrow, but he really wanted to try fish and chips and we were in town so we had his birthday lunch today. We went to Dokkan Brughus, a local brewery, and got to have lunch outside near the harbor. While we are eating, a cruise ship docked and many people came from it and ate in this same restaurant. Their location really seems to benefit them. Finally, we got ice cream to continue the celebration and went to the local Isafjordur pool. It was similar to the public pool complex in Olafsjordur, but had some differences as well. It didn’t have as many floaties, the slide was slower, and the main pool part was indoor,s rather than outdoors (though the slide and hot tubs were outside.) We didn’t enjoy it as much as our prior pool experiences, but it was still a nice way to end the day out.

Ezra and, especially Naomi, are so excited about the loft in our house. Naomi today even used some of her yarn and a paper bag to create a pulley system that is now utilized to send items or snacks up to the kids in the loft! 🙂

See you on the next mountain!
